Ira Levin

Practically born on the stage in Miami, Florida, he studied theater and music at F.S.U. While on his way to L.A. to become a comic actor, he decided to stay in Colorado to concentrate on writing music. When he did come to California he opted for Berkeley, where he has gotten a chance to study voice with the late great Judy Davis and had free reign to expand organically, not only as a composer but as a song leader and volunteer for TV stations, libraries, and Earth days.
A great fan of Fats Waller, The Gershwin Brothers, The Beatles, and Jethro Tull, Ira seeks to infuse a classic sense of melody into his songs.
So far, he has composed material for two CDs with Comfy Chair, the Elektra Records compilation Jump up and Boogie, his original play The Plant's Taking Over, Elie Wiesel's Trial of God, (performed at the Rhinoceros Theater in San Francisco), and his first children's CD Hippo on my Head (which he recently showcased in Scotland at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival), a music video for Velvet Mustache, filmed in NYC, The Uncle Eye Show (a TV Pilot), The Sultan of Time, his first solo CD for the grown-ups (not the grown-olds) which reveals more of his spiritual and whimsical nature through the vehicle of Soulfolk*. The Sultan’s leading track, 'Part of the Divine', was awarded Honorable Mention for Song of the Year Contest by The Northern California Songwriter's Association.
