ILLGENETICS was conceived in the Spring of 2002 by President/Chief Engineer John Scanlon. After piecing together a Radio Shack mixer and two cassette decks at the age of 10, John knew he would be destined for a career in the recording industry. After many attempts at being a player in various bands, John decided to turn his focus towards the art of recording, mixing, mastering, producing, and eventually DVD production.
Leaving his hometown in the Bay area he attended school and returned to the Bay to pay some dues where he began freelancing on various projects, and getting his feet wet at facilities in SF such as Hyde Street studios, Music Annex, and DubeyTunes. After hearing a radio add for a new college start up company in Emeryville CA, he decided to apply and eventually became the Director of the Sound Arts Program at Ex’pression College for Digital Arts.Teaching became his passion intertwined with the art of production.
After witnessing the many talented arists struggling for quality recordings and assistance with their projects, Scanlon decided to start a full production company dedicated to the underground, and become an outlet and porthole for like minded artists, enigneers, and producers with the same varying interests as his own. Throughout his career Scanlon has recorded, mixed, and mastered some of the biggest names in the business and takes pride in dedicating his knowledge to help talented musicians reach their goals by offering low rates and studio quality records.
